So to compare these handsets fairly, let’s review a selection of features to find out what each Smartphone really has to offer to a potential owner.

Design, form shape and appearance

The overall design, form, shape and appearance of the smartphone must look great and be able to catch a user’s eye.  The LG Optimus One P500 has a touch screen form casing with an elegant chrome effect edging and comes available in six colour options including black, silver, purple, blue, titan and dark red.  It is a compact shaped handset measuring 11.35cm by 5.9cm by 1.33cm and weighs in at 129 grams.  In comparison the HTC 7 Mozart is also a touch screen handset which is available in a black coloured brushed aluminium casing with subtle etched swirls on the back of the casing.  The HTC 7 Mozart is a slimmer in size but taller; slightly wider measuring in at 11.9cm by 6.02cm by 1.19cm and weighs a little more than the Optimus One P500 at 130 grams.  On the overall when it comes to appearance, both these smartphones look great.  So a decision based on design would have to come down to personal preference.

Smartphone OS and build-in technologies and applications

A smartphones operating system, built-in technologies, memory and battery time are all important factors to consider when deciding on a new phone. So let’s now compare these features on each handset. The Optimus One P500 is an Android Smartphone whereas the HTC 7 Mozart runs on the Microsoft Windows Phone 7 operating system.

Both handsets support 3G technology, Wi-Fi®, Bluetooth®, EDGE, USB connectivity and assisted GPS. However the Optimus One supports Google Maps, whereas the 7 Mozart supports with Bing™ Maps, as you would expect. From a memory perspective, the Optimus One has less internal memory, but supports more external memory via its memory card option, for example the 7 Mozart can only hold up to 8 gigabytes of external memory compared to the Optimus One which provides up to 32 gigabytes in total.

Battery life

The LG Optimus One P500 is expected to provide better battery time, so a slightly deeper casing size may have helped LG cram in a more efficient battery into the phone. 3G talk time for the LG handset is estimated at 7.5 hours and for the HTC handset 5.5 hours from a fully charged battery, so there is quite a difference to consider. However the big deciding factor here would be which operating system does the consumer prefer and how important is the memory capabilities and battery life of the handset.

Touch screen size and media imaging capabilities (Megapixel)

Now let’s take a look at each phone’s touch screen, media and imaging features. The LG Optimus One P500 has a smaller sized touch screen, smaller megapixel camera and less impressive music and sound features than the HTC 7 Mozart in general. The LG Smartphone has a 3.2 inch touch screen and 3.1 megapixel camera, whereas the HTC has an impressive 3.7 inch sized screen and the offers a massive 8 megapixel lens. From a sound point the Optimus One does have a music player and built-in FM radio, however the 7 Mozart offers the same plus it supports SRS surround sound and a Zune® music hub.

Internet capabilities

Finally let’s compare what each phone offers for Internet and messaging services. Both of these communication focused Smartphone’s offer Internet access with Wi-Fi®support and they both have HTML browsers ensuring that most websites are accessible. Additional both handsets support a variety of messaging services from SMS to Instant messaging, with built-in social network options, so in relative terms they are pretty much on a par with each other regarding Internet, messaging and communication features, which is good to know.

Summary

In summary the LG provides a longer lasting battery time, supports more memory for storage purposes and is a highly popular and competitively price Android Smartphone, compared to the HTC 7 Mozart which is an equally competitively priced Windows 7 Smartphone with a more impressive touch screen and provides higher quality imaging and media features.

So have you decided which one you would prefer? I think I would personally choose the LG as I tend to want more battery time and enjoy the Android operating system, but equally I can see the attraction of the HTC as I do like high quality imaging features on my handset. It’s certainly a tough decision and of course you will have to make up your own mind which handset would best suit your needs, but hopefully this will have helped a little to point you in the right direction.

The 7 Mozart offers a 1GHz processor, and its speed was noticeable from the start. Everything loaded fast and it zipped through menus without a hitch. Its 3.7-inch display was beautiful and had a sharp 800 x 480 pixel resolution. The 7 Mozart has a beautiful design, too, with a chic back cover that has an aluminum finish running across it. The battery cover is unique, too, in that you can pop off just one side to pop the battery out. The back of the phone is home to an 8 megapixel camera with a true Xenon flash.
